The Barn
815 SF
Located on the same property as Pine Grove Overlook, this barn was designed as a climate responsive structure that prioritizes animal comfort, durability, and long term value.
Passive solar orientation and prevailing wind strategies improve natural ventilation and regulate temperature throughout the year. Inverted trusses create generous interior height, encouraging air movement while providing structural efficiency and spatial flexibility. Translucent polycarbonate panels introduce diffused daylight, reducing glare while maintaining durability suited for agricultural use.
Lower walls are constructed of parged CMU block for resilience, ease of maintenance, and cost control. The interior layout remains highly adaptable, with integrated corral panel slots along the perimeter to accommodate changing pen configurations as needed.
With a budget comparable to pre manufactured options, the design demonstrates that thoughtful material selection and disciplined detailing can achieve both performance and architectural character. Rather than concealing utilitarian materials, the project celebrates them, allowing structure and texture to define its aesthetic.
The result is a purposeful, durable barn that elevates agricultural building standards while remaining financially grounded.
